“Espectros de lo (in)visible” is a free outdoor exhibition organised by Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo and EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) to celebrate the International Year of Light 2015. The exhibition will be shown in Fotogalerías Prado and Parque Rodó between 28th August and 26th October, 2015.As part of their remit to promote the understanding and appreciation of European Culture, the members of the EUNIC Cluster in Uruguay are celebrating the United Nation’s International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015).The celebration has taken the form of a photographic exhibition in various public spaces in Montevideo of images donated by world leading institutions and universities within the EU, reflecting the themes of the IYL 2015.The aim of the project is twofold. Firstly to promote IYL 2015 amongst the Uruguayan populace as widely as possible, with an emphasis on the contribution of European Science and Technology on our increasing understanding both of the science of light itself, and also the multiple technologies based upon that science. To achieve this first objective, use will be made of the existing infrastructure of outdoor photographic exhibition space, which has become a widely known and appreciated part of Montevideo’s cultural life. The exhibition will be enhanced by the production and distibution of explanatory and interpretive literature based upon the images presented. The second objective is to use the exhibition as a reference point to engage schools and school children with the IYL 2015, by means of workshops. These will be given by invited photographers, from the EU, and incorporate appreciation of the exhibition images themselves, as well as practical classes in image capture and processing. These ambitions directly address two of the IYL 2015 Hands On Involvement objectives: Light Images and Kids and Optics.
